I am guilty of this as well, when I was a teenager (before cell phones) I knew ALL of my friends phone numbers but now we have external brains that do everything for us..so why do we need to remember ...right? You can do simple research on this yourself…ask all of your friends with cell phones what your phone number is…I bet more than half don’t know it because they scroll to find your name and hit send. Before the invention of written languages,people would record their culture through word of mouth. There were professional storytellers who would spend years hearing and telling their people's histories and as a result their would train their memories to be almost photographic. It's a skill that has been lost in most of the world. These days,especially with the invention of television, people use their minds and memories to a much lesser degree. With video games in our lives the problem is becoming worse. The long-term effects can only be foreseen as bad. It’s true. Before the invention of written languages,people
